Scholarship Applications for the Fourth Annual Wine Bloggers Conference in Charlottesville, Virginia on June 22-24 2011 will be accepted starting JANUARY 1st, 2011.

The deadline to apply is June 1, 2011 (subject to change).  This allows everyone to make travel arrangements.  However, I encourage you NOT to delay in registering for the Wine Bloggers Conference itself, as it may sell out before the deadline.  If you are planning on attending even without Scholarship assistance, please register yourself and submit a request for reimbursement if you are awarded a scholarship.

I‘m so happy you are interested in applying for a Bloggership!

In order to submit your application for consideration, please send us the following information to wbcscholarship at gmail dot com for committee review.

  1. Full Name
  2. Contact information including email and phone number
  3. Blog address and what you’re all about
  4. Requested funds – please be specific, and indicate if you need the registration fee, full or partial hotel, full or partial airfare.  Remember, that times are tough and a lot of people need assistance, so please be honest and realistic about your requirements.
  5. In 250 words or less, please tell us why you would like to attend the WBC and why we should consider your application.

Thanks and good luck!

Please note:  Any scholarship funds that are awarded to you can be considered income, so you should check with your tax advisor next April!

Additionally, funds will be distributed in the following manner if and only if you are granted the following categories of funding:

  • Wine Blogger Conference Registration will be made on your behalf, with the provision that proof of an active blog can be provided.
  • Hotel accommodation at the host hotel,  the  Omni Hotel in downtown Charlottesville in a shared, same sex room.  The Omni is WBC Central, and has a blogger posted rate of $169 per night.  In the event these rooms are sold out, the Scholarship Committee will identify an alternate hotel within walking distance to the Omni.
  • If you are requesting airfare or transportation assistance, only the lowest scheduled rate from the major metro airport nearest you to Dulles/Washington, Washington/National, Richmond Virginia, or Charlottesville Albemarle airport.  The LOWEST PUBLISHED FARE to any of these transportation hubs will be accommodated for.  If you require transportation from any of these airports, please consult the ride share boards and other transportation methods. If the airfare directly to Charlottesville is similar or less than the published airfare to the major metro areas of Richmond, Norfolk or Washington, D.C.,  that may be substituted.
  • You will be required to show proof of attendance in the form of your name badge during or after the conference, and submit any applicable receipts to be eligible for reimbursement; please note this is only applicable if you have been awarded a transportation grant before the conference.

Good luck, and start thinking about how you feel that you have contributed to the blogging world, and why we should award you a grant!

  1. I am a budding Napa Valley Winemaker and Enophile. I have been in the wine business in some capacity for 12 years. Many in wine labels and hospitality (fine wine service) and this last year I find myself unemployed. I have been fully invested in getting my Enology Winemaking degree this spring and also Twittering and blogging about Wines I try at various tastings, i.e. Wines of The World Class and with other fellow wine associates in the Napa and Sonoma Valley. I have been blogging for around a year, but only seriously in the last 3 months. Thea has been encouraging me to attend, the blogger conference, but alas the funds are not there for me to do so. I believe I have the knowledge and tech no how to really be a great wine blogger.
Hope you will consider my application. My only real needs are registration fees.
    thanks so much.

  5. Hello,

Couldn’t find an email address for applying for the wine blogger scholarship so thought I’d put my application in here.

My name is Liz Lewis and I am a blogger/freelance writer who is slowly putting together a website/blog called The Green Wine Guide focusing on everything about eco-friendly sustainable wines and wineries. It’s still in the early stages but aim to develop it with maps, e-guides, interviews, and products for those interested in the environment, wine, and travel.

I’m traveling over from New Zealand for the wine bloggers conference as a way of connecting with other wine writers/bloggers and to discover many of the great California wineries that are sustainable.

Would love to be considered for the scholarship and get a little bit of assistance with accommodation costs while at the conference if possible.

    Thanks ,

    Liz Lewis

    • Hi Liz,

unfortunately, the Scholarship Applications closed on June 1st. My apologies, but we may be able to assist you with a lower cost room for the Fri/Sat of the conference. We have a scholarship recipient that currently does not have a roommate. The reduced rate would be $ 109.89 For the two nights.

Let me know if that is of interest, and I can see what I can work.

  6. After spending over 20 years in technology, I am taking an involumtary sabatical. With more time than usual on my hands I have begun to drink more wine and then …I started talking about the wines and then… Liza and Xandria convinced me to blog about the wines. I am enjoying my adventures and I am thrilled to share my love of the vine. WBC would be at the top of my list of events to attend this summer, if I was now doing a paid gig. A scholarship for registration only would be much appreciated.

  10. I’m working on my application right now!

  11. Darn. I would have been very interested in attending if ti wasn’t the identical weekend as Pinot Days in San Francisco, which has been one of my favorite annual events for the past four years. Looks like I’ll have to catch up with you at the next wine bloggers conference.

  12. Hi Richard,
yes it is unfortunate it’s the same weekend, however, with so many wine events all summer long it’s hard to find a free weekend to hold our event!

i hope to see you in the future.
